LLMs, for all their extraordinary capability, do not have this. They can generate plausible surfaces — copy that sounds right, flows that look reasonable, features that seem coherent. But they have no stake in the outcome. They cannot be embarrassed by a bad product. They do not know that your particular customer is the kind of person who will forgive a rough edge but will never forgive being made to feel stupid. That kind of understanding — granular, human, earned from observation and conversation and failure — is not something you can prompt your way to.
This is the counterintuitive truth of the AI moment: as artificial intelligence gets better at execution, human judgment about what to execute becomes more valuable, not less. Taste compounds. Not "how do we implement this?" but "are we sure this is the right problem?"
This orientation — the product mindset — has always been valuable. But it was once one capability among several. You also needed engineers who could build the thing, designers who could make it usable, data people who could make it legible. Those capabilities still matter, but their supply is rapidly expanding. AI is democratizing execution. It is not democratizing judgment.
The practical implication is this: the people who will thrive in the next decade are not the ones who learn to use every new AI tool as it appears (though they should learn the tools). They are the ones who develop a disciplined, almost obsessive interest in understanding the human beings they are building for. Who ask better questions in customer interviews. Who resist the pull of the interesting technical problem in favor of the unsexy but correct problem. Who can walk into a room full of shiny possibilities and calmly say: not that one.
